Salvadoran-American comedian Hoozay began his journey with a vision: to share his culture through comedy. In the early days, that vision came to life through his comedy shows—where pupusas were served, beers were shared, and laughter filled backyard spaces. Those shows became performances rooted in culture, community, and connection.
What started in those backyard comedy shows has since evolved into something powerful. Today, Hoozay travels across the world, creating spaces where Salvadorans, Central Americans, and Latinos can come together, laugh freely, and feel seen.
That same spirit was alive and thriving at our recent Cultura Fest comedy show.
Thanks to the generous support of Cañada College Cultural office, we were able to host Cultura Fest Comedy Show completely free for the community. This marked a historic milestone—it was the first time Cañada College hosted a comedian, and the first time it hosted a Salvadoran-focused event of this kind. The campus opened its doors to a night centered on culture, identity, and shared experience.
The energy in the room was undeniable. The audience came ready to laugh, connect, and celebrate.
And then came a surprise moment.
During his set, Hoozay brought out a special guest: Tony Escoto of Bayuncos.
Known as the face behind Bayuncos, Tony Escoto is a classically trained pianist with years of conservatory-level discipline. His artistry brings a unique fusion of sound and storytelling, rooted deeply in Salvadoran identity.
His project Crossing Borders showcases that vision beautifully—a cumbia-driven experience that blends rhythm, culture, and narrative into something both fresh and powerful. The album is available to stream now on all major platforms.allow="autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; pe-in-pic
Moments like this are what Cultura Fest is all about—unexpected collaborations, cultural pride, and creating platforms for artists shaping the next wave of Salvadoran and Central American expression.
We’re incredibly grateful to College Advising Prep and Cañada College Cultural Center for sponsoring and hosting Cultura Fest. Their support made it possible to create a space where community, culture, and creativity could thrive.
This comedy show was a statement. A reminder that Salvadoran stories belong on every stage, in every room, and in every conversation.
Cultura Fest will continue building these spaces, expanding this movement, and making sure our culture is represented and celebrated loudly.
